Sitting on a boat in the middle of the ocean can be daunting, even frightening. To realize just how small you are, surrounded by a sea so vast and wide, may not appeal to some people. However, the all-encompassing embrace of just the sea, yourself, and the sky can be deeply meditative. Having experienced this on multiple occasions when the urge for adventure blows a firm wind in my sails, and I myself over to the whims of wild abandon; I seek out the sea. I seek the calm and collected, gently swaying of a boat gliding over turbulent undercurrents; I seek the sound of measured splashes against the side of the boat where I can skim my hands just over the surface.
It was in this moment- right after a series of earthquakes rocked the Caribbean- that I found myself on a boat in the middle of the ocean, watching as the smaller vessels were rocked back and forth. It was here that I found the swaying, both frightening and exhilarating, as the earth recovered from the shifting of plates beneath. This moment, of bated breath, only punctuated by the splash of the sea and groan of the vessel. It was nature, only only nature, that spoke… and that was fine. Here, Adrift In Silence, I listened.
